1. Hinoki
Chamaecyparis obtusa, or Japanese cypress, has long been regarded as a sacred tree, symbolizing purity, protection, and spirituality. Its wood is deeply embedded in Japanese culture and has been traditionally used in the construction of shrines, temples, and other sacred spaces. We use steam-distilled Hinoki essential oil from the highest quality, sustainable plantation harvests in Japan.
2. Hawaiian Sandalwood
The Hawaiian Sandalwood oil used in the Hinoki Temple spray is harvested from the Big Island of Hawaii and directly contributes to the largest native forest reforestation project in Hawaii’s history. Known as ‘iliahi in Hawaiian, Santalum paniculatum is a softer, less pungent version of its Indian cousin. Benefits include emotional balancing and grounding, releasing stress and tension.
3. Vetiver
The rich base note of Vetiver is blended expertly with the other wood oils to enhance the sensual scent profile. Vetiver oil has been show to increase alertness and focus, while improving and uplifting mood.
4. Strawberry Guava
As part of sister brand Mamaki Skin’s Invasive Medicinals initiative, we have included strawberry guava leaf extract in this spray. Strawberry guava or waiawi is a highly invasive tree that takes over native habitats, but like all “invasive” plants, they have potent medicinal qualities. The Invasive Medicinals initiative takes these unwanted plants and instead of poisoning the earth further to remove them, they utilize them and replace the area with native plants.
4. Love: Nature’s Frequency
We talk about love being the secret ingredient for grandma’s family recipe, and it’s no different in the making of this room spray. Instead of being mass-produced and factory-made, each Zen Room Spray bottle is hand-mixed and hand-poured by local families with loving intention.
Zen Room Spray is made in a quiet workshop surrounded by plants and wildlife, where WiFi is turned off. Tuning forks are utilized to “bathe” the spray with A = 432 Hz, which is the frequency of birdsong and Earth’s natural electromagnetic frequency (the Schumann resonance). We also use crystals and copper-based structuring units to bring the water molecules into their optimal form, like a perfect snowflake.
When you spray it, you are getting the purest form of nature, like the headwaters of an untouched spring, far from pollution.
Hinoki Benefits
What are the benefits of Hinoki essential oil? Hinoki oil is used for relieving stress, for meditation support and for general relaxation. With its natural antibacterial properties, Hinoki essential oil helps to deodorize, taking away unwanted odors. Hinoki can be a great support for a restful night’s sleep, but is uplifting and can be used at any time of day.
Plant ʻŌhiʻa Project
Part of our proceeds go directly back to the ʻāina of Hawaiʻi through our native planting project, focused on the culturally and environmentally significant tree, ʻOhia Lehua. ʻOhia trees Metrosideros polymorpha are endemic to the Hawaiian Islands and are one of the first to grow after a lava flow.
Thousands of ʻOhia trees have died in recent years due to Rapid Ohia Death, and we are doing a very small part by planting more on the island of Hawaiʻi. Wildlife that has evolved with the ʻOhia depends on these beautiful trees that are pillars of the island landscape and culture.
